Connect the evidence without merging its meaning

A registration, a site permission, a company filing and an enforcement publication describe different things. WasteSignal is designed to connect them while preserving their own references, dates and scope.

Company records and available insolvency notices can add context to a supplier review. They do not provide a complete credit score. Published regulatory events will need their type and outcome retained; a suspected issue, an undertaking and a conviction must not be treated as equivalent.

  • Legal identity, aliases and matching confidence.
  • Registrations and relevant status or renewal information.
  • Sites, operators, permissions and supported activities.
  • Available corporate and regulatory publications with their context.

Source date is part of the finding

A report published today may describe last year. A document discovered today may describe an older event. We plan to distinguish the effective or event date, publication date and the date WasteSignal detected the information.

Freshness depends on what a publisher releases, how frequently it can be collected and whether the record needs review. The service should explain that context rather than describe all information as real-time.

Unknown should stay visible

Profiles and reports distinguish unavailable information, information not yet checked, and fields that do not apply. An unresolved match should stay unresolved until the evidence supports it.

A missing record may need investigation into the identity, source coverage, a changed reference or a collection problem. It should not automatically become an adverse finding about a business.

Useful history, with its limits intact

We build longitudinal history by retaining supported observations and acquiring reliable historical material where use and retention are permitted.

We will not reconstruct unsupported past register states from today’s records. Imported historical evidence must be distinguishable from a newly occurring event, and gaps in the record should remain clear.

Rights govern what can be shown and shared

Public access to a record does not settle every question about reuse. Each source must be reviewed for display, monitoring, exports, API access and retained history.

Output rules apply consistently across the website, PDFs, datasets and future integrations. Where rights limit an output, the limitation must be disclosed rather than removed by changing the format.

From permission to a practical decision

Registration and site permission are distinct checks. Permission evidence also needs to be considered alongside the proposed activity and waste. Current acceptance, capacity and commercial terms must be confirmed with the operator.

Keep the event and the discovery in context.

A dated history separates source events, records added later and your own review notes.

Illustrative example · invented records and dates

  1. Source event

    Permission variation recorded

    Example effective date:

Source: Illustrative external record · ILLUSTRATIVE-001 / variation

    Read the example context

An invented waste-site permission variation. Publication date is not available in this example; the effective date is separate from collection.

  2. Historical import

Earlier evidence added to the history

    Example collection date:

Source: Illustrative external record · ILLUSTRATIVE-001 / variation

    Read the example context

The September record was added to the example history in October. This collection date is not a new event date.

  3. Internal note

Question saved for the next review

    Example note date:

    Source: Illustrative internal review note

    Read the example context

A fictional analyst asks whether the permission covers the intended activity. This note is not a regulator publication or official finding.
